Ones To Watch 2021
MativisionMativision

VLIPP (Virtual Live Interactive Performance Platform) is a developed and field-proven immersive streaming content and distribution platform which will revolutionise the way music artists and venues promote and deliver live events. The technology will maximise revenue by reaching a global audience with unique ways to experience and interact with live concerts and archived video content.

Mativision are audio-visual content technology specialists. We have produced and live streamed major music concerts and performance events to global audiences of millions since 2008. We are valued partners with the UK Government’s innovation projects, and supported major entertainment sector clients, such as FOX, MTV, Universal and Warner Music Group, using our mature proprietary content platform to demonstrate the highest quality linear and immersive live streaming capabilities, along with 5G next-generation capabilities and functionality.

For venues and performance artists wishing to maximise global online audience reach to events, Mativision has further developed the VLIPP technology as a readily available online Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for use across the UK entertainment sector, the first of this kind worldwide.

VLIPP enables all artists and venues to access our field-proven, end-to-end workflow, leveraging our proprietary content platform technology and our unique experience and know-how in 360˚ Video VR/AR technology.

VLIPP provides a web-based portal for the entertainment sector to create their own branded live stream & VOD destination platform via a user-friendly 4 step process, from creating an account, branding their channel, setting up a calendar of live streamed ticketed events to uploading price-pointed video content libraries.
As a cloud-based solution, VLIPP enables users to easily design and deliver an extension of their brand experience to their own dedicated URL, bringing an unlimited audience reach into their ‘virtual venue'.

The entertainment sector has been particularly hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Essential cultural events and creative performances have been severely restricted, creating an economic crisis across this critical UK industry. Government funded support, including the Culture Recovery Fund, have been set up to enable venues to explore other opportunities to reach wider audiences. There has also been a paradigm shift in the consumer’s appetite to view paid content & streamed performances remotely via a range of digital devices, and this trend will continue to be a growing economic opportunity to maximise revenue once venues are back to normal in-house performance schedules.

As a prototype to the live PaaS version, in late 2020 Mativision implemented and delivered VLIPP as an end-to-end solution to the Rambert Dance Company. The Rambert ‘Home Studio’ Platform has been used to promote and monetise existing content and to successfully live stream paid performances for the prestigious dance company since September 2020.

Despite being a niche proposition, and only two weeks to promote their new dance performance, Draw from Within, the first live stream sold over 3,000 tickets, far exceeding the venue-based audience capacity.

In the first two months from launch the platform registered over 5,000 new users, who continue to receive tailored, revenue-generating updates, including details of relevant training and up-coming events.

The platform continues to be used as the ongoing destination for Rambert’s live performances, workshops, training programmes, interviews and behind-the-scene content.

VLIPP will be future-proofed and provide additional growth targets and revenue generating features with remote collaboration opportunities due to our work integrating 5G network capabilities. Mativision were selected as part of an industry consortium on the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport funded ‘5G Festival’ project.

5G Festival will produce a 5G powered, virtual, live immersive collaboration platform for artists. It will enable them to produce and perform seamlessly from wherever they are, as well as enriching the live performance experience for audiences at home and at the venue.

Using 5G and its ability to transmit with low latency (delay) and in ultra-high bandwidth alongside Mativision’s 5G-ready 360° content distribution platform, the development will transform the ability of physically separate artists to produce immersive live, collaborative performances across multiple venues and online audiences.

5G Festival recently won the 5G Realised Award for Most Innovative Use of 5G.

In 2019, Mativision’s work in streaming technologies was awarded the Digital Catapult Platinum Award, recognising and celebrating the most innovative and fast-growth advanced digital technology start-ups and scaleups in the UK. In 2021 Mativision was named London’s Best VR Media Production Firm by SME Magazine.

We believe that the promotion driven by winning a CIC CreaTech One to Watch 2021 award will generate significant awareness of our read-to-use product, supporting the UK Entertainment sector to self generate revenue in this critical time of need.
