Music adds £5.2bn to UK economy

The UK music contributed £5.2bn to the economy in 2018, employing a record 190,935 people.

The figures come from the 'Music By Numbers' report published by UK Music. According to this data, live music contributed £1.1bn in 2018, an increase of 10 per cent on 2017. Overseas visitors increased from 810,000 to 888,000 in 2018.

Total export revenues were £2.7bn in 2018, and music tourism contributed £4.5bn to the UK, up 12 per cent from £4bn the previous year.

UK Music CEO Michael Dugher said:

‍"The figures are hugely encouraging and show that, as well as enriching the lives of millions of people, music makes an incredible contribution to the UK's economy."
