YCE Media Award

The Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE) Media award is an annual British Council programme which identifies the rising stars in film production, games design, advertising, graphic design and digital media from all over the world. It celebrates the best of what’s going on in each local media scene and offers the brightest media minds the opportunity to take part in a UK industry tour, participate in an international media trade event and in several business and networking opportunities, and become part of the British Council’s international YCE network.

Since 2007, 77 young media winners from more than 40 countries have taken part in the programme, building an active alumni network in the process and spurring new collaborations, business and co-productions.

Participants travel to the UK to take part in a week-long study tour of the UK’s media industry, which includes curated group meetings; peer networking opportunities with international and UK young media entrepreneurs; meetings and masterclasses with senior UK industry figures; time for individual business meetings and attendance at London Film Festival, Power to the Pixel and other partner events, including an international networking reception where participants get the chance to present and discuss their work.

In 2012, 17 national winners participated in a shared study tour of UK media businesses and clusters. They got the latest top tips on Trans-Media storytelling at Power to the Pixel, visited a range of world-beating start-ups at London’s ‘Silicon Roundabout’ - one of the most thriving tech clusters outside ‘Silicon Valley’ -, and received first-class business advice from investment specialists in extensive workshop sessions. They also got the chance to chat with leading industry representatives at an exclusive dinner reception and pitch their business ideas to a packed crowd of tech aficionados in East London.

The Media Award scheme is part of the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE) Programme, which seeks to identify, celebrate and connect the most innovative UK and international entrepreneurs working in the cultural and creative sector.
