Pact is the trade association representing the commercial interests of UK independent television, film, digital, children’s and animation media companies. We work with the wider industry to help embed diversity and inclusion.
Our members have been responding to on- and off screen broadcaster and BFI diversity targets since 2014 and we have good engagement across the industry. In 2016 Pact worked in collaboration with the major UK broadcasters to launch Diamond, the first industry-wide diversity monitoring system of its kind in the world.
Our current efforts are focused on practical initiatives to help our businesses and the wider industry to create greater diversity. We recently launched the Pact Diversity microsite, which hosts practical advice, tools and links which are relevant to all creative industries: http://diversity.pact.co.uk/
The Pact Indie Diversity Training Scheme is in its fourth year, and so far 43 entry level trainees have benefited from placements with TV indies and free bespoke training as part of the programme. We are delighted that later this year we will be launching a similar scheme in Scotland, offering six-month long paid traineeships alongside industry standard training. We hope that this will contribute to creating a sustainable talent base in Scotland.
Pact also regularly runs regular events and workshops focusing on providing the tools for businesses to build diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We recently rolled out legal guidance across the country and are hosting a briefing for BME owned production companies to connect them with broadcasters and established industry organisations.
We believe it is only by employing strategies which don't prescribe a ‘cookie cutter’ approach that we will create lasting changes in our industry. In 2017 we are excited to be working on bespoke diversity and inclusion programmes for our businesses.
