Journalistic campaign wins international praise

The Sunday Times has been widely credited for its role in exposing for uncovering the Fifa scandal, demonstrating that British newspaper journalism remains a powerful force to hold authority to account.

The paper has been praised by high profile figures such as Culture Secretary John Whittingdale and Football Association chairman Greg Dyke for its investigations into the bidding process for the right to host the 2018 World Cup and the subsequent revelations.

The Culture Secretary said of the paper's investigation: "In the face of legal threats and the omerta-like code of football administrators, they refused to back down and doggedly pursued their story, pulling at the tiniest of threads until the full scale of the scandal was dragged into the light."

The paper has won a clutch of awards for its coverage including the Paul Foot Award for investigative journalism and investigation of the year at the British Journalism Awards.
